Doryoku Race Bar’s philosophy of use

We designed this to be the best value bar on the market when it comes to weight, construction, design, add on options, price and total value. All bars are designed by scanning the OEM bumper bar/foam/support so that we can ensure the best fit and follow the existing shape. The race bar is intended to provide many performance benefits for track car applications (drag /road race) while allowing the user to customize the bar as they grow in the sport.

Customize Options

☆ Extended dual tow hooks

These welded hooks can be used for easy access tie-down for transport. This eliminates the need to go under the car which interferes with splitters, lips. The dual hooks also have an M8 hole which are used for mounting splitter support rods. Note: very minimal trimming to the bumper is required. Trimming is not visible from the outside.

☆ Hidden Universal tow strap bracket

This welded bracket allows for universal tow straps to be bolted on. You will need to make a horizontal slit in the bumper cover for the strap to pull through. This can be placed anywhere on the bar, driver, passenger or center. Consulting will be provided before fab.

☆ Recessed CNC M12 tow bung

Welded CNC M12 bung allows for thread in style tow strap which is common on modern cars such as S2000, FRS BRZ, BMW, Corvette, Porsche, VW Audi sports cars. We can place this anywhere on the tube. Consulting will be provided before fab.

☆ Dual M8 threaded mounting pucks

M8 pucks make it easy to bolt on FMIC, oil coolers, ducting plate, light bar & splitter support rods. We offer 1" and 3" long M8 pucks. See gallery. M8 pucks are placed on the bar based on your setup. Consulting will be provided before fabrication.

☆ Custom powder coating

I stock over 35 popular colors. Powder finishes are available in wrinkle, matte & gloss.  Please note in "Special Instructions" what color you would like.

Engineering Design Notes

☆ Maximum protection

Roll cage spec tube is used to protect everything behind the bar. We also want the maximum distance from the bar to the vitals of the car (engine). Think of a roll cage door bar where the old school design was a straight bar less than inch away from the driver's body compared to a smarter design door bar that kicks out from the B pillar towards the door-skin then curves back into the A pillar giving the driver much more space and protection from an impact. We use this same approach in our bumper bars.  See Eric's video.

☆ Maximum air flow

In force induction application, more room behind the bar allows you to run larger FMIC, placing FMIC further away from the radiator core provides more  air flow/speed as it passes through FMIC rather than having air flow slow down due to having FMIC & radiator stacked up behind one another.

☆  Maximum structural rigidity

A strong tubular bumper bar adds chassis rigidity to the radiator core support. The weakest link of the front end is the radiator core support. It comprises thin stamp steel with huge opening compared to firewall that is closed off, fender frames that are much thicker steel. See crash test results from our Enduro TSX.

FAQ

Caret Down
Q: Will you make a rear bar?

A: YES, we have already scanned the rear bar. Rear bar preorder will be open in about 2 weeks. If you order a front bar, we can hold front bar to ship with rear bar to save you $35 shipping. This pre-order is only for front bar. If you want to nerd out check out our other rear bars (EG EK, DC2, TSX, S2000 ect) it will give you a good idea of how we design rear bars.

Q: Why doesn't you wrap under headlight like others?

A: We are track guys, we think about track conditions, functionality & proper design for our application. Those other companies aren't like us. If they were, they would have came up with options/designs like ours. We designed the RSX bar without any extended tubes for several reasons:

1) Less weight

A tubes that extend past the mounting point is dead weight IF it's not connected back to the chassis. This limb is now the weakest point & compromises the the rest of the bar.

2) Not a drift-bar

Our clients are track / drag / time attack / autocross clients who want need forward protection. Drift bars often "wrap around" the headlights because they are often drifting in tandem and is normal to bump other cars sideways. Wrap around bars support bumpers on the corners so bumpers don't fly off on minor bumps. many wrap around bars will be tied back to the fender area OR connected to a lower bar with vertical gusset tube making the top & bottom bar equally strong.

3) Safety

We don't want our bars to hook onto other cars in event of corner contact.  Most common racing contact of front corner will be a driver accidently hitting rear end or quarter panel of the leading car causing them to spin.  The last thing anyone wants is cars to be hooked on to the other car. Well designed drift bars with wrap around will have smooth end to reduce hooking.

Almost all major corner impacts will result in frame damage. No bar will be able to prevent it that's why auto manufactures don't make side bars.

Q: How much weight is saved over stock?

A: 6.2lbs (49%) weight savings. It's not so much about how much weight is removed, what's more important in any track car is "where" the weight is removed. Anytime you can remove weight from areas beyond the wheel it improves the car's natural balance & gives you the control to strategically add weight back in where it's most beneficial for your setup or race series. Check out this video from Ben as he talks about weight reduction & distribution.

Q: How do you mount splitter support rods on to your bar?

A: We use M8 thread pucks which can be mounted on the bottom of the bar.

We recommend Professional Awesome universal splitter/aero support rods which can be used on either option of our bar.  See link and youtube video within the link

Q: Can I fit an “ABC” tucked radiator and “ABC” FMIC?

A: Many customers can easily fit a tucked radiator and up to 4.5” thick FMIC. If you can fit a FMIC behind your stock bumper, you will be able to fit it behind the Doryoku bar.

Q: Will the bumper still fit like stock?

A: We designed the bar to have a tight fit by placing it close to the upper portion of the bumper grill. Our tubular bar fits TIGHTER to the cover than the OEM foam.

Q: What are the benefits to Zinc Chromate Plating?

A: Zinc plating provides a thin corrosion resistant protection barrier which makes it very easy to primer paint or powder coat over. It's also easy to prep for additional welding if you decide to add additional parts to the bar. Powder coating is thicker but less friendly for future modifications such as painting or welding.
