The 4th gen Civic probably has the worse body panel fitment from the factory compared to 5th and 6th gen Civic. This is especially true when Honda designed the bumper cover to bolt onto the OEM bumper beam. When replacing the OEM bumper beam with Doryoku lightweight tubular bar, the bumper cover loses the mounting tabs under the headlights. 

Depending on the condition of the bumper cover & chassis, some bumper covers may exhibit more bumper sag/gap under the headlights. We developed these optional brackets for those clients who need them. 

We understand these cars being +20 years old, their conditions vary with questionable history. Some variables where a car might need additional bumper support: 

• Core support has been repaired 
• Non OEM replacement bumpers that fit subpar 
• Aftermarket bumpers (drag frontend, body kit)
  
• Aftermarket headlight resulting in more gap

Engineering Design Notes 

 

Modular Value Driven Design 
Rather than forcing clients to buy a feature they don't need (added weight & expense), we allow customers to decide if their car needs it. This is a bolt-on option so existing clients don't need to modify their bar. 

Adjustability

Some companies weld a fixed bracket on to their bars. This does not allow for any flexibility in adjusting the left from the right. Most cars & aftermarket bumpers are not perfect and require independent adjustability. Our design allows for up to 1/2" of vertical adjustment. In extreme case, clients can bend the (14ga) steel bracket as needed without worry of material structural fatigue
