B-Series Non-VTEC Specific Info

B18A/B and B20 non-VTEC covers aren't the most common, but we didn't want to leave these guys out. We were hesitant to invest time and resources into this since these covers were so low volume, but we saw enough of them and they're an absolute pain to clean with the baffle still attached. Non-VTEC B-series and D-series have probably seen the most neglect. These engines were in the less desired chassis so they likely didn't see much routine maintenance. We always see layers upon layers of oil buildup and deposits on these covers.

What makes them difficult to clean is the baffle design. Take a look at this B18B/B20 cover. There are two entry points for crankcase pressure to flow into the baffle chamber. The baffle chamber is then broken up into two separate halves with one side being dedicated to the vent tube and the other side to the PCV. Furthermore, each half is then split into separate top and bottom chambers. You can start to see how this becomes a near impossible task as there are multiple places for debris to get trapped. Flushing the baffle chambers becomes a very lengthy process...

B18A covers have a different baffle design from the B18B/B20, but are equally as difficult to clean! You can see where crankcase pressure flows into a tiny port on the baffle and Honda also left more clearance around the spark plug tube seals for an entry point. One exit point is found on the back of the cover.

B-series non-VTEC owners can thank the intricate baffle design, because that was the catalyst for offering this service! You can send your cover in for both powder coating and baffle service or just the baffle service itself. We now offer this service for both B18A and B18B/B20 covers.
